Yoga at Home

Getting Started with Zoom

You will need a computer, laptop or tablet and a yoga mat, with enough space around you to practise safely (beware of pets, children & inanimate objects!). All other props can be improvised; when BKS Iyengar first invented props he started using the things he found around him - real bricks, luggage straps... all inspired him to improve his practise - so we can follow suit.

Online classes are run in a way that is very similar to our regular in studio classes, except of course we are all at home. Most of the information on our website is still relevant, from advice on what to wear... to arriving 10 minutes before the class starts.

  1. Download Zoom prior to the class. Your joining link is sent before the scheduled start time.

  2. Click on the link 10 mins before the class starts. You'll then be in the "Waiting Room" until I admit you. This 10 minutes gives you time to setup, don't leave it to the last minute!

  3. If possible set up your practice space so that you have a plain background - this makes it easier to see you. Preferably with your mat across the screen if space permits.

  4. Set up your camera so that your mat is visible & I can see you if you are standing, sitting or lying down.

  5. Have any yoga props nearby. No kit? Be creative with what you have - towels, throws, dining chairs, stools, coffee tables, sofa....  I'll give alternatives if you don't have certain props. Or visit www.yogamatters.com

  6. Laptops are easy to adjust the height of the camera for sitting or standing. iPads/tablets may need two height positions so you are not obscured.
